INTERACTIVE MEDIA DESIGN ACADEMY
Since it opened its doors, Renaissance cultural Center made of the STEM program its top priority. Its fun-oriented approach helped many students embrace Science, technology engineering and maths in a friendly and refreshing way that helped them value education and inspired them to stay in school. Understanding the power of such program lead us to develop a new opportunity for kids aged 6 to 18 that will increase their creativity and provide them with a new set of skills. We thought: what if they could be taught persistence, self-determination, courage, and problem solving mentality using topics like video game coding, java programming, robotics, filmmaking, and more?
The interactive media Academy is designed to be that nurturing environment for our students. Ten youth participants will meet once a week for a two hours workshop at a one of our fully equipped designated locations in Maryland and in the District of Columbia in order to participate to the Interactive Media Design Academy (I.M.D.A.). Youth participants will learn computer skills used for interactive applications, as well as Multimedia
production skills. The participants will learn how to create compelling stories or public service announcement (PSA) using practical tools like smartphones and computers. The workshops projects will be student-centered and community oriented.
We are confident that 92% of students will increase their job readiness and media literacy and production skills (as measured by attendance, behavior, and successful completion of responsibilities).
By guiding each youth in the completion of a Career Portfolio, a resume, a work permit application and the writing of a letter of recommendation, we will ensure all students are well equipped to pursue their own careers.
Finally, a field trip to a local Interactive Games and Media company will focus on in-demand careers associated with motion graphics, video games and Multimedia. Additionally, students will be introduced to wearable tech outfit design, and 3D printing.
